Game Preview: 10.7.22 Pre-Season vs. BUF


The Penguins close out their 2022 preseason with a matchup against the Buffalo Sabers on Friday, October 7 at PPG Paints Arena. The gates to the arena will open at 6:00 p.m. Last weekend, Pittsburgh lost a 3-1 decision to the Sabers at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. Since the start of the 2020-21 campaign, the Penguins hold a 5-1-0 record against the Sabers at PPG Paints Arena, beating Buffalo 22-10 during that span. In their last meeting at the PPG Paints Arena, goals from Jeff Carter, Brock McGinnand Evan Rodrigues helped the Penguins win 3-2 over Buffalo on Dec. 12, 2021.


A performance of 37 saves from Casey DeSmith pushed the Penguins to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena. In the game, DeSmith stopped 37 of Detroit’s 39 shots (.948 SV%), helping the Penguins earn their second win of the preseason. jason zucker, Bryan Rustand Josh Archibald all found the back of the net for Pittsburgh. Zucker’s game-winning goal was his third team-leading goal of the pre-season. Pittsburgh’s average time on ice in the lead in 2021-22, Kris Letangled all Penguins skaters in the game with 23:27 minutes of ice time.
