Players of the Match: CJ Stroud, Javontae Jean-Baptiste take honors for Ohio State win over Toledo

After every win this season, Eleven Warriors will honor Ohio State’s top offensive and defensive players with Player of the Game awards.

CJ Stroud is the Eleven Warriors offensive player of the game. Meanwhile, Javontae Jean-Baptiste is our Defensive Player of the Game for their stellar outings in the Buckeyes’ blowout 77-21 win over Toledo on Saturday.

Stroud earns Offensive Player of the Game honors after completing 22 of 27 passes for 367 yards and five touchdowns against the Rockets. He distributed the wealth to several different receivers in the contest, connecting with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Julian Fleming twice for scores while finding Emeka Egbuka in the end zone once. Harrison and Egbuka also eclipsed 100 receiving yards for the second straight game with Stroud under center.

Jean-Baptiste also stepped up against Toledo, picking up two sacks and a forced fumble for the Ohio State defense. The fifth-year defensive end frequently disrupted the Rockets’ offense and ensured their offensive line watched his presence on the brink.

Heading into Saturday’s contest, Jean-Baptiste had a tackle against Notre Dame and Arkansas State, so his Week 3 performance can be seen as a breakthrough for the veteran passer as he set highs of the season in each statistical category of tackles, tackles for loss and sacks. .

Stroud and Jean-Baptiste accompany Harrison, Mike Hall Jr., Miyan Williams and Tommy Eichenberg as six Buckeyes who won Eleven Warriors player of the match in the first three weeks of the season.
