Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 debuted at The Game Awards 2019 alongside the Xbox Series X announcement, so it’s only fitting that it’ll return in 2021 with an all-new extended trailer. It looks and sounds as amazing as ever, to be expected when the first set such a high bar in terms of visuals and sound. You’ll definitely want to play this one with headphones when it comes out (which is unknown, as we unfortunately don’t have a release date).
The gameplay trailer features Senua and a group of warriors battling a monstrous creature in a cave. The creature drives them out of the cave as they ignite themselves with flaming spears. As they retreat, an arm reaches out to Senua before the camera focuses on her face in recognition and fades to black.
The first Hellblade was heavily focused on mental health, specifically psychosis, and its sequel will be no different. Ninja Theory consults with mental health professionals through Project Insight to describe Senua and her struggle.
Hellblade 2 currently doesn’t have a release date, but we know it will launch in Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. While a last-gen version doesn’t appear to be in the cards, it’s possible that Microsoft and Ninja Theory will release it via cloud streaming, allowing those with older consoles to continue playing it.
