The Tokyo Game Show 2022 will be held as a physical event for businesses and general visitors

Tokyo Game Show 2022 will take place from September 15 to 18 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, as a physical event for trade and general visitors for the first time in three years, the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association announced.

September 15 and 16 will be working days, and September 17 and 18 will be public days. However, general admission will be available from 2:00 PM JST on the second working day.

While the Tokyo Game Show was held as a fully online event in 2020, and as a hybrid online and physical business-only event in 2021, 2022 marks the return of a physical event for visitors. professionals and generals.

The theme for Tokyo Game Show 2022 is “Nothing Stops the Game”. The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association explains, “During these two years, various entertainment events have disappeared from our daily lives, but games have continued to brighten our days. The games will continue to brighten everyone’s day now and forever – this year’s theme involves such determination.

As in previous years, Tokyo Game Show 2022 will launch official programs in Japanese with live English interpretation. Other popular Tokyo Game Show 2021 programs are also planned, such as demos of the latest games to enjoy at home, a virtual tour experience, and the Tokyo Game Show virtual reality zone.

Exhibition areas (Makuhari Messe Hall 1 to 8)

  • General exhibition area – This area showcases digital entertainment products and services, focusing on video game software. (The area will be open all four days.)
  • Smartphone play area – This exhibition area focuses on games for smart devices, such as smartphones and tablets, from iOS, Android and others, as well as social games played on mobile devices and computer browsers. (The area will be open all four days.)
  • Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality Space – This area showcases gaming software and hardware related to VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality) and MR (mixed reality), as well as related services. (The area will be open all four days.)
  • independent play area – This area is for independent (indie) game developers to showcase their fully original games for different platforms. (The area will be open all four days.)
  • play school area – This area features game schools for future game creators. (The area will be open all four days.)
  • Merchandise sales area – This area is for selling game-related products. (The area will be open on all four days.)

B to B exhibition space / Meeting space

  • Business Solutions Zone – This exhibition area is for gaming-related businesses looking for business-to-business opportunities. The Tokyo Game Show Forum sponsorship session is also available as an option (additional fee required). (Some kiosks will be open all four days, and some will be open only on business days.)
  • New Star Zone (Asia/Eastern Europe/Latin America) – This area showcases overseas companies that will become rising stars in the gaming industry, promising game startups, development studios, and services from various regions. Special emphasis is placed on Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America to showcase excellent companies from these regions. (Some kiosks will be open all four days, and some will be open only on business days.)
    • Asia New Stars Area – With a focus on Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Middle East, this zone showcases promising game startups, development studios, solution providers and others from the region.
    • Eastern Europe New Stars Area – This space presents video game startups from Eastern European countries (Poland, Croatia, Czech Republic, Romania, etc.) where many technical institutions offer game engineering courses.
    • Latin American New Stars Zone – This space presents video game startups, particularly from emerging countries in Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and others).
  • Business meeting space – This is a meeting space for conducting productive meetings in a relaxed atmosphere. The zone offers a free business matchmaking system connecting exhibitors with Business Day visitors or other exhibitors. (This area will be open on business days only.)

Organizer programs

  • Tokyo Game Show Forum 2022 Keynote Speeches – This session features the hottest topics in the gaming industry this year. (To be held online on September 15.)
  • Sense of Wonder Night (SOWN) 2022 – This international pitch competition is a gateway to successful indie games, where developers will pitch their innovative ideas to people in the gaming industry. Ideas are solicited from all over the world and outstanding works will be recognized with the prizes. (To be held online on September 16.)
  • Tokyo Game Show Forum 2022 Specialized Session – A conference will be organized for industry stakeholders, focusing on the latest gaming industry trends in technology and business. (Will be held physically, and also streamed online, on September 16.)
  • 202 Japanese Game Awards – Japan Game Awards 2022 is the selection and awards event organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) to recognize outstanding computer entertainment software. The winners of the GOTY Division, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Award, Game Designer Award, Amateur Division and U18 Division, among other awards, will be announced during the period. from the Tokyo Game Show.   • eSport conference organized by JeSU – The first-ever esports business conference organized by Japan eSports Union (JeSU) will be held in conjunction with the Tokyo Game Show 2022.
