Twins look solid to beat Tigers, Rox drops game opener in Duluth

The Minnesota Twins looked sharp after the All-Star break, beating Detroit on the road to start the two-game series, while the St. Cloud Rox lost a low-scoring game to the Duluth Huskies on Saturday. On Sunday, the Minnesota Lynx will face Connecticut for the second time this season as they attempt to move up the standings.


–The Twins fired on all cylinders in an 8-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers in their first game after the All-Star break on Saturday. Alex Kirilloff scored two points for Minnesota in the win. Joe Ryan finished with seven strikeouts and allowed four hits and a run in nearly six innings. The Twins improve to 51-44 and the Tigers to 38-57. The teams will end the series on Sunday. – The Rox lost a close 2-1 to Duluth in Game 1 of the four-game series. Ethan Mann scored the only point for St. Cloud. Relief pitcher Jonathan Martinez surrendered the winning run to Duluth in the bottom of the ninth as a sacrifice fly. The Rox slip to 35-13 and the Huskies improve to 26-22. – Post-season hopes hang in the balance when 11th-place Lynx hosts 3rd-place Sun on Sunday. Minnesota is currently two games behind the Phoenix Mercury who currently sit in the final playoff spot as a no. 8 seeds. The Lynx fell to Connecticut 94-84 on Friday in the first of three games between the teams this season. Tipping is set at 6:00 p.m. at Target Center.
